Frequently Asked Questions
What is a clinical psychologist?
A clinical psychologist is trained to assess and diagnose problems in thinking, feeling and behaviour as well to help people overcome or manage these problems. Clinical psychologists are also uniquely trained to use psychological tests to help with assessment and diagnosis. In line with Ontario law, an individual must complete 9-10 years of university studies to use the term "psychologist" as well as the title "Dr.", as well as pass several licensing exams and maintain a membership in good standing with The College of Psychologists of Ontario. For more info, see www.cpo.on.ca.
Are psychology services covered by the Ontario provincial health plan (OHIP)?
Psychology services in Ontario are not covered by the provincial health care plan (OHIP); clients pay directly for the services. However, many employers offer reimbursement for psychology services as part of their extended health benefits. Psychology services can also be claimed as health care expenses on your income tax return. Contact Dr. Virley's office at (613) 236-3472 to discuss her fees for different types of services.
